Month: March 2016

Reflection: March

Oh March, possibly one of the most reflective months I’ve had in YEARS. There’s so much going on some, I’ll probably never talk about simply because I don’t have the right words. The parts that I do have the words for may sound a little ram-bly (is that a word?) either way, here goes starting with the, Downs … My emotions have been running high with the thought of giving up living abroad (for a while). It’s no secret that I have been extremely homesick and all I’ve wanted was hugs from my best friends and a decent cup of tea! But now that time is approaching, I suddenly remember the little things that I enjoy about living in Japan and will be giving up for example: Going  for late night runs without fear / having random strangers stop me in the middle of the street for a chat even though I don’t understand and can barely respond /  cycling everywhere without fear of some idiot texting whilst driving & knocking me over / polite …

Contemplation, Week 5

Hello! And welcome to Week 5 of Contemplation. Thanks again to Desley from musings of a frequent flying scientist, for starting the Contemplation series. Each week Desley chooses a prompt from her Kikki.K A Sentence a Day Journal and invites us to share our response. Today’s short but sweet prompt: What can you smell right now? Currently balsamic vinegar and potatoes as I’m making dinner. A house that smells like food is never a bad thing in my mind unless it’s something really potent like … Fish. Don’t get me wrong I LOVEEE seafood and could eat it all day, every day BUT for some reason after cooking it if the house still smells like the sea I find it really annoying. Is that weird? What can you smell right now? *Posts from Week one + two + three + four. Have a great day ahead!

Mindful Monday #1

There was a lot of information shared so I decided to do a three part series called: Mindful Monday (apologise for the cheesy name). BUT before I delve into the lessons, a few notes. Where was it taken?  FutureLearn (FL) which I have used a few times and highly recommend a visit to see if anything peaks your interest. Full course name: Mindfulness for Wellbeing & Peak Performance, courtesy of Monash University. Price? All courses on the site are FREE and some offer a participation certificate which you can purchase after completion of your course. Can I join in the fun? YES. The course returns, Monday 23rd May so if after reading you find yourself curious to learn more, head over there and save yourself a spot! What did it consist of? We were …

Three Things Thursday

Happy Three Things Thursday … APRIL is around the corner, ahhhh! Moving on, this week was a tad uneventful and emotionally a little more stressful than I would’ve liked BUT these things have helped keep the tears at bay Best friend to the rescue! I feel SO much better today than I have all week because of a phone call I had with her. In it we spoke about the beauty of NOW and appreciating what we have today, I know for sure it was a conversation that needed to happen especially this week. It has made me feel even more grateful for our friendship. We ended it on such a positive note, about me visiting her in L.A which would  be my first trip to North America .. EXCITED is an understatement. FriendaVersay Celebrations. This week my friends from back home decided to create a Facebook group, in order to plan a trip for us to celebrate 10 years of friendship!  My heart did a little happy dance when I got the invite. I met them …

Contemplation, Week 4

Hello! And welcome to Week 4 of Contemplation. Thanks again to Desley from musings of a frequent flying scientist, for starting the Contemplation series. Each week Desley chooses a prompt from her Kikki.K A Sentence a Day Journal and invites us to share our response. Here are my posts from Week one + two + three. This week’s prompt: Name one thing you should do more often. There’s always something that I wish I could do more often for example, Relax because stress no matter how big or a small a problem is never healthy but has in the last few months become my middle name. I’m working on changing this but as usual I wanted results yesterday. Read because I have fond memories of growing up, spending my time escaping into books and how happy it made me. I miss that feeling! Write because one day (soon) I want to finish writing a book. But that will never happen unless I actually start writing something. Exercise mainly because I am tired of hearing myself complain about the way I look. …

Pretty In Pink, Sakura

Tis the season tourists always hope to witness, Sakura! Until last year I had no idea that the States also had cherry blossoms, I know silly right BUT I think that’s because it’s not really celebrated in the same way the Japanese do. In Japan, cherry blossoms also symbolize the transience of life, which is a major theme in Buddhism. The cherry-blossom tree is known for its short but brilliant blooming season, a natural process that metaphorically describes human life. Source Over here we also have a watch, which is basically a map that pinpoints when and where they’ll bloom. According to the watch today officially marks the beginning of the season for us. I went in search of some earlier today but haven’t seen any that have blossomed SO below a few photos I took last year. It’s a shame the occasion only lasts about a week before they fall and the ground looks like a candy floss machine exploded! We live near lots of trees and its lovely seeing a trail of pink. …
