Month: February 2016

Reflection: February

Hello! I hope you’re feeling as good as a certain someone post the Oscars! Now is it me or despite being known as the shortest month of the year, February seems to have dragged on? On the flipside, are ready for a brand new month? No, don’t worry neither I’m I. Its been difficult trying to stay on top of things and I’ve been a bag of anxiety, mainly caused from March marking 3 months before we go back home and there are still lose ends to tie up in Japan. Including getting our dog ready for travel. So no biggie, right. In the name of practicing mindfulness and being aware of my thoughts, anytime I feel myself getting worked up I try and work on changing my perspective. By quietly bringing myself back into the present and asking myself, what if everything turned out to be just fine? What if your dog passed all his medical tests and flew out with you What if you’re owed (Japanese) tax money and don’t owe them a single …

Three Things Thursday

Happy Three Things Thursday people. I hope this week has been all kinds of amazing to you and you’re doing well? Fail of the week, my dog got new treats which is nice but he keeps ummm …ok, no other way to say it but passing wind and it’s made me want to throw up a few times! He loves these treats and I don’t want to be mean by throwing them out, but seriously I can’t wait for him to finish them. Nice way to start huh. Moving on, lets get into what HAS made me smile: Run! Run! Run! I know, who have I become!? BUT running has actually made me really happy. I started using this app called Couch to 5K, which I’ll write about once complete. Currently I’m 6 weeks (out of 9) in and feeling GREAT, this week was tough so I’m really proud of myself. Endorphin’s come at me. P.S I Love You. Mr C has been away since last Friday to be with his family and I won’t lie, …

Nutrition & What is a Flexitarian?

Although I didn’t have any New Year resolutions, I made a list of things I wanted to focus on, that post here. One of the things on there is: Healthy Body, they’ll be no weight loss targets this time round but I do want to develop a healthier attitude towards food. After trying to reach that magic goal weight forever, I wanted to understand where I had been going wrong. That’s when I remembered a site called FutureLearn, which offered LOTS of free courses ranging from Science to Script Writing. So Back in January, I decided to do a short (4 week) course called Nutrition & Wellbeing, now that the course is over I wanted to share a few things I learned. Early on in the course I realised just how little I knew about Nutrition. One of the things I found I had zero knowledge on was, on being a Flexitarian. The flexitarian approach allows a flexibility to adapt eating patterns with less meat but not cut it out completely. The flexitarian diet is …

Mindfulness: Flow Magazine

Mr Cheerful actually spotted the magazine first, we were at the airport and he asked me to come over and have a look at something he thought I would be interested in, and he was RIGHT. After taking a peek inside, I grabbed my (English) December issue and raced home. This issue’s theme was on Mindfulness, below a note on that from the magazine: Why is Mindfulness so good for you? Mindfulness has proven that it’s here to stay. In fact, it is taken seriously these days as a way to improve anxiety, depression and general well-being, and it’s expanding into other realms – Flow Magazine I brought mine on the same day I quit my job, I was clearly on the hunt for something that would motivate me to get of bed and not spend the New Year feeling sorry for myself. Two months on and I’m still finding new things to love about this magazine. There are so many amazing and thoughtful pieces on Mindfulness, finding beauty in simplicity and loving the life …

Three Things Thursday

Happy Three Things Thursday to ya! It’s been a bit of a hectic week but these beauts have kept me smiling! So I am grateful for these three things; The X-Files. Slowly I feel like the 90s are making a comeback and it’s great. First stop T.V shows then world domination … Ok maybe not, but I’m glad x-files has returned, Mulder hasn’t changed one bit which I love even more! Valentines (indoor) Picnic. The night started off so well and civilised then ended with us drunk on homemade sangria. I’m still laughing at the fact that we tried to pretend we we’re all grown up ha. Wouldn’t change us for the world. Me Time. Despite it being a hectic week and feeling frazzled for the majority of it, but I managed to fit in some much needed me time. I spent it listening to podcasts, painting my nails and writing. Sometimes it’s nice to spend some time alone with your thoughts, plotting how to take over the world. How’s your week been? Till next time. …
